Six Refrigerator Trends in 2021 You Should Know About

November 30, 2021 by

More people stayed in and cooked meals at home this year than ever before, making food storage a major consideration for many homeowners.

For that reason, we’re taking a look at refrigerator trends from the past year. Not only do we want to keep up with which brands and models our customers are favoring, but we also want to understand what trends we can expect to see more of in years to come.

At the same time, homeowners like you can benefit from this information, too. If a new fridge is on the horizon for you, these are the things you should be on the lookout for.

So, with that being said, here are the six biggest refrigerator trends we noticed in 2021.

Top Refrigerator Trends This Year

  1. LG refrigerators consistently rank the highest in terms of general customer happiness. GE and Whirlpool refrigerators are close behind.
  2. Samsung models with built-in ice makers seem more likely to fail than other brands.
  3. Counter-depth refrigerators are increasing in popularity, with many people reporting plenty of storage capacity, better appearance in their kitchens, marginally improved energy efficiency, and high satisfaction levels overall.
  4. French-door styles are topping the best-seller lists at all of the big appliance retailers. Not only do people tend to prefer French-door models on an aesthetic level, but they also find that these models offer superior organization, layout, and shelving.
  5. Stainless steel is the reigning champion of finishes, despite complaints about fingerprints.
  6. Higher energy-efficiency ratings and more environmentally friendly refrigerants are growing in prevalence.

As always, if you’re experiencing any refrigerator problems of your own or you’re looking for some guidance on installation, don’t hesitate to give us a call. All Brands Appliance is standing by to help!

The Safe & Easy Method for Cleaning Your Garbage Disposal

September 30, 2021 by

Is your garbage disposal starting to stink? Do you think there may be some loose debris getting in the way of the impellers?

Whatever your reason for wanting to clean out your garbage disposal, All Brands Appliance Repair in Wilmington is here to help you do it safely and easily. It’s a surprisingly straightforward process, and it only takes a few extra steps to remove any potential hazards.

So, without further ado, here’s our step-by-step guide to cleaning your garbage disposal!

How to Clean Your Garbage Disposal

1. Cut the power to your garbage disposal. This means either unplugging it or switching off the breaker.

2. Using a flashlight, look inside the drain for any stray objects. Remove them with needle-nose pliers.

3. Pour a dozen ice cubes and coarse salt down the drain. Restore power to the unit, run the tap over the drain, and turn on the unit. Let it go for about a minute, until all the gunk and debris have been cleared away from the impeller blades.

4. Cut the power again. Pour one cup of vinegar and a half-cup of baking soda down the drain. Let this mixture sit for 15 minutes so it can neutralize bacteria.

5. Meanwhile, in a separate bowl, combine vinegar and baking soda again until you’ve created a thick paste. Using an old toothbrush, apply this paste to the rubber flaps and outer surfaces of the garbage disposal and scrub them clean, top to bottom.

6. After 15 minutes, restore power to the unit again. Plug the drain. Fill the sink about two-thirds or three-quarters of the way, and add a good squeeze or two of dish soap. Remove the drain plug, turn on the disposal, and let all of the water flush everything away. Turn off the disposal once the water is gone.

Now your garbage disposal should be smelling fresh and sparkling clean!

How to Successfully Set Up Your New Refrigerator

August 31, 2021 by

Now that you went out and invested in a brand-new refrigerator, you want to be 100% certain you’re setting it up for optimal performance. Otherwise, what did you spend all that money for?

That’s why we’re giving you this guide for a successful refrigerator installation. Give it a read before you get to work!

How to Install Your New Refrigerator

  1. Before you install your new refrigerator, make sure you have enough space for an air gap. Check the manual that came with your unit for the exact specifications. This gap is necessary for air to circulate and heat to escape. For most models, the required air gap at the rear of the unit is two inches.
  2. Next, slide the refrigerator almost into position. Line it up, but leave enough room so you can fit behind it. Once you’re behind the unit, connect the power and water lines.
  3. Now, slowly push the refrigerator towards the wall. Most new refrigerators today come with wheels on the back, so tilt it upwards and use the wheels to roll the unit into place. Leave two inches (or whatever the manufacturer recommends) between the unit and the wall.
  4. If you removed the doors of your refrigerator for transporting purposes, now is the time to reattach them. Here’s how to make sure the doors and the unit itself are perfectly level so they can form an airtight seal.
  5. Finally, install the interior shelves and drawers. Close the doors and allow the refrigerator to run undisturbed for a few hours while it cools down to the proper temperature. Once it reaches 40 degrees F, you can safely load it up with perishables.

And there you have it! If you need any further assistance with your new fridge, don’t hesitate to ask. At All Brands Appliance Repair, we’re always happy to help.

Top 3 Reasons Your Dishwasher Isn’t Cleaning Dishes

July 31, 2021 by

Is your dishwasher not getting dishes as clean as you’d like? That’s such a frustrating problem to deal with.

To shine some light on the issue, we’re outlining the three most common causes of a dishwasher not cleaning properly. If you’re a handy DIY-er, then you might be able to troubleshoot and fix the issue yourself using this blog post as a starting point. Good luck!

1. Clogged or Faulty Water Inlet Valve

The water inlet valve is what brings water into the dishwasher. When it has a blockage or defect, it won’t supply enough water for the dishwasher to clean dishes.

Consult your user manual to locate the water inlet valve. If it appears clogged or otherwise defective, replace it.

2. Dirty Wash Arms

The wash arms of your dishwasher are the spinning plastic pieces that spray water onto your dishes. If there’s dirt and gunk blocking the tiny holes in the wash arm, then the water won’t be able to come out, which means your dishes won’t get clean.

Depending on the make and model of your dishwasher, there may be up to three wash arms. You’ll need to inspect each wash arm and use an old toothbrush to dislodge any particles from the holes. If they can’t be salvaged, replace them.

3. Failed Circulation Pump

Powered by a motor and impeller, the circulation pump drives water up through the wash arms. Therefore, any problem with the circulation pump will prevent the wash arms from spraying sufficient water and rinsing your dishes.

Often, the circulation pump’s motor has burned out. Other times, the impeller gets stuck due to debris buildup in the pump housing. If you’re sure that electrical power is getting to the motor and there’s nothing blocking the impeller, then it’s likely that the motor needs to be replaced.

We hope this helps you get to the bottom of your problem! If not, don’t hesitate to reach out to All Brands Appliance Repair for a fast, effective dishwasher repair service.

Three Most Common Reasons Your Dryer Isn’t Turning

June 21, 2021 by

When your dryer’s drum is not spinning, your dryer can’t do its job.

Fortunately, diagnosing and fixing a dryer that’s not turning is reasonably straightforward. Below, we’ll take a look at the three most common reasons your dryer isn’t spinning and what the solutions are.

1. Broken Drive Belt

The drive belt wraps around the drum, the tension pulley, and the motor pulley. It’s responsible for physically turning the drum. Unfortunately, it’s very common for the drive belt to break after years of wear and tear.

So, if your drum isn’t spinning, the first thing you should check is your drive belt. You can do this simply by turning the drum with your hands. If it moves easily and smoothly when you spin it by hand, then it’s your drive belt that’s causing the problem.

Thankfully, replacing the drive belt is a very straightforward fix!

2. Faulty Drum Rollers and/or Roller Axles

Most dryers have support rollers at the rear and front of the drum. They may prevent your dryer from turning if they aren’t able to spin freely on their own. This can happen if they break or get worn out after years of use.

To check if your drum rollers and/or roller axles are to blame, remove the drive belt and try to spin the drum with your hand. If it won’t spin, then the rollers are likely the root of the issue. You’ll need to replace them.

3. Worn-Out Drum Bearing

The drum bearing is similar to drum rollers in that it supports the rear of the drum and often wears out over time.

If you removed the drive belt and were able to turn the drum by hand but were met with some resistance and a lot of squealing, then your drum bearing is what’s been preventing your dryer from spinning. You’ll need to replace the drum bearing.

But remember: These are just the top three most common reasons your dryer isn’t spinning. If none of the above solutions works for you, there’s still a solution out there.

For help in the Wilmington, MA, area, call All Brands Appliance Repair. We’ll happily do a thorough diagnostic check of your dryer and fix your problem once and for all!
