Top 3 Reasons Your Dishwasher Isn’t Cleaning Dishes

July 31, 2021 by

Is your dishwasher not getting dishes as clean as you’d like? That’s such a frustrating problem to deal with.

To shine some light on the issue, we’re outlining the three most common causes of a dishwasher not cleaning properly. If you’re a handy DIY-er, then you might be able to troubleshoot and fix the issue yourself using this blog post as a starting point. Good luck!

1. Clogged or Faulty Water Inlet Valve

The water inlet valve is what brings water into the dishwasher. When it has a blockage or defect, it won’t supply enough water for the dishwasher to clean dishes.

Consult your user manual to locate the water inlet valve. If it appears clogged or otherwise defective, replace it.

2. Dirty Wash Arms

The wash arms of your dishwasher are the spinning plastic pieces that spray water onto your dishes. If there’s dirt and gunk blocking the tiny holes in the wash arm, then the water won’t be able to come out, which means your dishes won’t get clean.

Depending on the make and model of your dishwasher, there may be up to three wash arms. You’ll need to inspect each wash arm and use an old toothbrush to dislodge any particles from the holes. If they can’t be salvaged, replace them.

3. Failed Circulation Pump

Powered by a motor and impeller, the circulation pump drives water up through the wash arms. Therefore, any problem with the circulation pump will prevent the wash arms from spraying sufficient water and rinsing your dishes.

Often, the circulation pump’s motor has burned out. Other times, the impeller gets stuck due to debris buildup in the pump housing. If you’re sure that electrical power is getting to the motor and there’s nothing blocking the impeller, then it’s likely that the motor needs to be replaced.

We hope this helps you get to the bottom of your problem! If not, don’t hesitate to reach out to All Brands Appliance Repair for a fast, effective dishwasher repair service.

Three Most Common Reasons Your Dryer Isn’t Turning

June 21, 2021 by

When your dryer’s drum is not spinning, your dryer can’t do its job.

Fortunately, diagnosing and fixing a dryer that’s not turning is reasonably straightforward. Below, we’ll take a look at the three most common reasons your dryer isn’t spinning and what the solutions are.

1. Broken Drive Belt

The drive belt wraps around the drum, the tension pulley, and the motor pulley. It’s responsible for physically turning the drum. Unfortunately, it’s very common for the drive belt to break after years of wear and tear.

So, if your drum isn’t spinning, the first thing you should check is your drive belt. You can do this simply by turning the drum with your hands. If it moves easily and smoothly when you spin it by hand, then it’s your drive belt that’s causing the problem.

Thankfully, replacing the drive belt is a very straightforward fix!

2. Faulty Drum Rollers and/or Roller Axles

Most dryers have support rollers at the rear and front of the drum. They may prevent your dryer from turning if they aren’t able to spin freely on their own. This can happen if they break or get worn out after years of use.

To check if your drum rollers and/or roller axles are to blame, remove the drive belt and try to spin the drum with your hand. If it won’t spin, then the rollers are likely the root of the issue. You’ll need to replace them.

3. Worn-Out Drum Bearing

The drum bearing is similar to drum rollers in that it supports the rear of the drum and often wears out over time.

If you removed the drive belt and were able to turn the drum by hand but were met with some resistance and a lot of squealing, then your drum bearing is what’s been preventing your dryer from spinning. You’ll need to replace the drum bearing.

But remember: These are just the top three most common reasons your dryer isn’t spinning. If none of the above solutions works for you, there’s still a solution out there.

For help in the Wilmington, MA, area, call All Brands Appliance Repair. We’ll happily do a thorough diagnostic check of your dryer and fix your problem once and for all!

How to Give Your Gas Range a Deep Clean

May 25, 2021 by

It’s impossible to keep your gas range shiny and grease free at all times.

Food and oil splatter onto the surface of your range virtually every time you use a skillet or sauce pan. Before you know it, the grease buildup is visible and, well, a little gross.

So, how are you supposed to tackle this mess?

Fortunately, deep-cleaning your gas range doesn’t have to be an intimidating project. Below, we’re going to outline the basic tools and steps involved in scrubbing and de-greasing a gas range. You might want to bookmark this for later!

What You’ll Need to Deep-Clean Your Gas Range

  • Nontoxic degreasing agent (Simple Green is our preferred one)
  • Nylon scrub brush (medium stiffness) or toothbrush
  • Non-scratch scouring pad (Scotch-Brite makes a good one)
  • Paper towels
  • Glass cleaner
  • Razor blade
  • Magic Eraser

Step-by-Step Guide for Deep-Cleaning Your Gas Range

  1. Make sure all control knobs are in the “off” position. (Optional: If you have removable knobs, take them off so you don’t bump them and accidentally turn on your range while cleaning.)
  2. If you recently cooked, let burners and grates cool down completely.
  3. Remove grates, burner caps, and burners. Set aside.
  4. Place grates in the sink and saturate with your degreaser. Let soak for 20 minutes.
  5. While grates soak, tackle the stovetop:
    • First, wipe up any loose food particles.
    • Then, heavily spray the surface with degreaser and let it sit for a few minutes so it can break down all that greasy residue.
    • Take the non-scratch scouring pad and loosen up big chunks of grime and gunk.
    • Use paper towels to wipe away the grime and gunk.
    • Repeat this process until there’s no longer any visible mess on your paper towels.
    • Optional: If there are a few spots where the gunk is so baked on that it won’t come off with the scouring pad, use a nylon scrub brush or toothbrush with additional degreaser. You might even need to use a razor blade if the mess is especially stubborn.
    • Spray surface with glass cleaner and wipe away the Magic Eraser, leaving a spotless finish.
  6. Back to the grates. Rinse them with hot water and scrub away food residue with the nylon brush, spraying with additional degreaser or soap if necessary. Do the same with the caps.
  7. Rinse the actual burners with hot water and scrub with brush if necessary. Do not use any degreaser or cleaner on the burners themselves.
  8. Let all stove parts air dry; then put them back in place.

Now you’re done!

How to Troubleshoot a Refrigerator Water Dispenser That’s Not Working

March 31, 2021 by

Your refrigerator’s water dispenser only has one job: to dispense water. That’s why it can become a huge point of frustration when it suddenly stops working. You’ve been relying on it as your source of filtered water, and now you can’t even use it!

Fortunately, you can try to get to the bottom of your fridge’s water dispenser problems by running through this troubleshooting checklist. Try these out and see if you can identify the issue!

Quick Troubleshooting Guide for Your Fridge Water Dispenser

  • Check the water tube. Is it frozen? Disconnect the tube and try blowing air through it. If no air goes through, you know you have an ice blockage. Your freezer’s setting is probably too cold.
  • Look at the water inlet valve. Is it defective? This could be causing water pressure and/or water continuity problems. If you don’t have a pressure gauge or multimeter, you’ll need to call a technician for help.
  • Try the other functions on the dispenser, i.e. the ice cube and crushed ice functions. If those aren’t working either, then you likely have a control board problem.
  • Check the dispenser switch and door switch for continuity. These are common causes of water dispenser malfunctions, but if you don’t have access to a multimeter, then you’ll need the service of a professional technician.
  • Replace the water filter. A common source of water dispenser problems is an old, clogged filter. You should replace the filter every six months to avoid issues and keep your drinking water clean.

We hope this helps you narrow down the culprit behind your refrigerator water dispenser issue!

However, if you’re still having trouble, please don’t hesitate to reach out. All Brands Appliance Repair is here to help homeowners in Wilmington, Tewksbury, Burlington, and surrounding areas.
