Our Family History Makes a Big Difference!

December 29, 2017 by

Did you know that All Brands Appliance Repair has been in our family since 1971?! That’s a long time—46 years, to be exact! The company was founded by our owner’s father more than four decades ago, and it’s been our family’s business ever since.

How We Got Here

Our owner learned everything from his father. He started working with appliances as part of the family business at a young age, immediately proving he had a natural talent for problem solving and mechanics. It must run in the family, because he was extremely good at identifying the causes of all kinds of appliance malfunctions and figuring out precisely how to fix them. He continued sharpening his skills and learning from his father until it was his turn to step up and take over the business.

Carrying on the Legacy

To this day, we honor our family’s history by continuing the tradition of hard work, friendly customer care, and professional integrity. When it comes to appliance repairs, quality service is in our blood. That’s what makes our family business so special. We were founded on an inherent passion for helping people and delivering a job well done.

That’s also why we’re so prompt when responding to customer queries and arrive on time for all of our appointments. Our job is to make your life easier by fixing your broken appliances, so we do whatever it takes to make the process as pleasant as possible.

However, there’s only one way to truly feel the difference our family history makes—and that’s to work with us the next time you’ve got a broken appliance on your hands! All Brands Appliance Repair is here to help, so don’t hesitate to reach out.

DIY Steps for Unclogging Your Dishwasher Drain

November 19, 2017 by

A clogged dishwasher drain may feel like a major problem, but it’s actually easier to fix than you might think! Read on for step-by-step instructions from All Brands Appliance Repair, your source for comprehensive appliance care in Wilmington and the surrounding area. We’ll walk you through how to locate and remove clogs on your own.

Safety First!

When you’re ready to venture into the world of DIY dishwasher care, the first thing you need to do is make sure that both your dishwasher and garbage disposal (if applicable) are turned off and that the power is disconnected. This simple step is the most important thing you can do to prevent injury when you’re troubleshooting issues involving water and electricity!

Gather Your Materials

Before you start working on your dishwasher or garbage disposal, gather your owner’s manuals for those appliances. You may need some help finding the location of behind-the-scenes parts like hoses and drains. If you can’t get your hands on the paper manuals, you can often find electronic versions online.

Once you’ve found the manuals, collect the other items you’ll need. These include:

  • A straightened out wire coat hanger
  • Baking soda
  • Vinegar

Check Your Dishwasher Drain Hose

If you have a dishwasher and a garbage disposal, the hose that connects the two is the most likely culprit for a clog. After you’ve turned off the power, use your owner’s manual to determine the location of this hose. You may need to pull your dishwasher away from the wall to reach it.

Once you’ve found the hose, gently disconnect it and use the straightened coat hanger to locate and extract the clog. Reconnect the hose and you’re good to go!

Clear Your Dishwasher Drain

If you don’t find a clog in the drain hose, or if removing the clog doesn’t solve the problem, the actual dishwasher drain may be clogged. Refer to your owner’s manual to find the drain. Remove the outer drain catch and filter and clean them off. Then, deploy your trusty coat hanger to gently seek out and remove any internal clogs within the drain.

If you can’t find any clogs inside, then it’s time for the baking soda and vinegar. Pour in about one tablespoon of baking soda into the drain, and follow with a splash of vinegar. This will cause a gentle chemical reaction that should clear out any debris.

Time to Reconnect

Wait a few minutes to allow the baking soda and vinegar to work, then replace the filters and drain catch and turn the power back on. Start the dishwasher to flush the drain and make sure that it’s working properly.

When to Call the Pros

If there’s still a problem after you’ve gone through these steps, then it might be time to call in the experts. The team at All Brands Appliance Repair is here to help folks in Wilmington and the surrounding area with all of your dishwasher troubles. While we encourage you to try your hand at DIY clog removal, we’re also happy to assist if you haven’t had success. Don’t hesitate to call us if you need additional help!

One Surprising Refrigerator Setup Tip!

September 6, 2017 by

When you’re setting up your refrigerator, it’s easy to assume that making the appliance level is the way to go. However, getting your fridge perfectly level is actually a bad idea! Keep reading to learn how this surprising fridge setup tip can help keep your unit working its best long term.

If you’ve recently purchased a new refrigerator or you’re moving your existing unit, once the appliance is in place, you want to make sure it has a slightly backward tilt. You can achieve this by adjusting the front leveling legs. This is a simple procedure that requires, at most, a screwdriver. Just twist the leveling legs so that your fridge leans back a bit and both front legs are even.

Why is leaning backward better than level? It actually improves your refrigerator’s performance! Modern refrigerators are typically equipped with self-defrosting freezers, and the water from the defrost cycle is designed to flow out of a drain in the back of your freezer. A slight backward tilt helps keep that water effectively running out of your freezer, potentially preventing messy drain clogs.

And, as a fringe benefit, having your refrigerator leaning backward also helps the doors close. In fact, in many cases, it will cause the doors to swing shut on their own even if someone forgets to close the door, helping save you money and keeping your food fresh longer. It’s a win-win!

Have questions about other easy refrigerator tips? Need help with a clogged freezer drain? All Brands Appliance Repair is standing by to be your one-stop shop when you need fridge repair help. Call now to learn more.

Keep Your Disposer Running Smoothly With These Easy Garbage Disposal Tips

August 1, 2017 by

Kitchen cleanup is a whole lot easier—and your trash can a lot less stinky—when you have a garbage disposal available to help with food waste. Keep your garbage disposer performing its best with these two easy tips.

1. Size Matters

Your garbage disposal is designed to grind up food debris, not giant chunks. That means rinsing plates or dumping old soup into your garbage disposer is usually just fine. Your appliance can easily handle these types of smaller food particles. However, your garbage disposal is not designed to take oversized chunks or other large items. So the next time you discover a spoiled onion in the pantry or you need to get rid of leftover casserole that’s past its prime, think twice. At least break or cut it into smaller pieces before putting it into the garbage disposal, or you could end up facing a messy, frustrating blockage.

2. The Lemon Trick

Tired of your garbage disposal smelling a bit off? There’s an easy solution. Just peel a lemon, toss it in, and turn on your garbage disposer. This will help clean your garbage disposal and leave it smelling fresh.

For more maintenance tips, or to get professional garbage disposal repair, just call All Brands Appliance Repair. We are standing by to meet local homeowners’ appliance repair needs. Put our 46+ years’ experience to work by calling now!
