Having Trouble With Your Refrigerator’s Ice Maker?

January 20, 2020 by

Your ice maker can quickly become your favorite part of your kitchen. And when it stops working, you’ll definitely miss it more than you think. Fortunately, refrigerator ice makers are not difficult to troubleshoot. Before you call a repair service for your refrigerator, let’s take a look at some fixes that you can try on your own.

Common Ice Maker Issues

If your ice maker isn’t making ice, the issue is usually either a clog in the line or a clogged water filter. A water filter can be replaced easily, and a clog in a supply line can be melted with a hairdryer or by pouring hot water over the clogged area. This should be simple if the supply line is clear. If the clog is darker or does not look like ice, you should probably call a professional repair service.

If your ice maker’s ice cubes are too big or too small, you may need to adjust your ice maker’s water flow. Fixing this requires removing the cover on your ice maker. If you are comfortable doing this, you can easily adjust the flow by locating a screw with (-) and (+) indicators. Turning this screw toward the (-) indicator should decrease water flow, resulting in smaller ice cubes. Turning it the other way, towards the (+) indicator, will increase water flow, resulting in larger cubes.

If ice does not eject from your ice maker, it could be a control arm issue (which can be fixed simply by putting the control arm back into the correct position in your freezer) or an electrical issue. Again, if you are not comfortable troubleshooting an electrical issue, it is time to call a repair company. Otherwise, you can check electrical connections to make sure that everything is making proper contact.

If any of these fixes don’t solve the problem, make an appointment with an appliance repair company. In Wilmington, All Brands Appliance Repair is always willing to offer advice and quote repair prices for your refrigerator ice maker—so give us a call!

Why Are Whirlpool Appliances So Popular?

December 22, 2019 by

Whirlpool has been a popular name in the appliance industry for decades now. Their machines are semi-professional, with a price tag to match—but why are Whirlpool appliances so popular across the world? Here are just a few of the reasons people love Whirlpool over other appliances.

  1. Durability. Whirlpool is one of the oldest brands still making appliances today. Over the ten decades they’ve been in business, they’ve discovered the best way to manufacture quality appliances and make them last. All of the parts that go into a Whirlpool washing machine, dryer, or refrigerator are of the highest quality, and consumers know they’ll perform for a long time.
  2. Spare Parts. So what happens when your Whirlpool unit breaks down or needs a replacement part? Whirlpool prides itself on producing genuine spare parts. This means that the spare parts you order to replace ones that have worn out are not cheap or flimsy. Some companies produce low-quality replacement parts so that owners of their appliances have to keep replacing them; Whirlpool is not one of those companies.
  3. Customer Service. If your appliance breaks down within the warranty period, the team at Whirlpool is more than happy to quickly fix the issue or get you a new machine. Customer service queries are always answered positively and with the goal of fixing your issue.
  4. Semi-Professional Design. One of the best things about Whirlpool appliances is its excellent engineering. Designers at Whirlpool know exactly how to provide consumers with a machine that is efficient, effective, and operates quickly for your busy life. With rigorous safety tests and new technologies, Whirlpool appliances are always designed with the consumer in mind.

Thanks to these substantial benefits (among others), Whirlpool has been one of the most popular brands for appliances for decades now. That’s why All Brands Appliance Repair specializes in servicing Whirlpool models. So, when you need help with your Whirlpool refrigerator, dryer, or dishwasher, give us a call!

Washing Machine Not Spinning? Here’s What to Do

November 12, 2019 by

When your washing machine doesn’t spin, it may be causing your clothes to remain soaking wet or for your items to not be cleaned properly. However, this might not necessarily mean you have to get an expensive repair service to fix it.

Here are some troubleshooting tips that you can try before calling an appliance repair technician:

  • Jammed clothes: Check to make sure that there are no clothes jammed in the drum and that the load is balanced correctly.
  • Lid switch: There should be a tab on the lid that slots into a lid switch when the lid is lowered or shut. If the tab is broken, or the switch doesn’t click when you test it, it will prevent your washer from spinning. This piece may need to be replaced.
  • Drive belt: The machine’s drive belt may be loose, broken, or worn down. You can replace this belt or tighten it down yourself without contacting a repairman.
  • Control panel issues: If the washing machine isn’t spinning and also doesn’t seem to respond to any buttons being pressed, there might be a problem with the controls themselves. This would require repair service.

If you’ve completed all of these troubleshooting steps and you still require a professional washer repair service, All Brands Appliance Repair is here to help in Wilmington and surrounding communities. We are always happy to take a look at your unit, troubleshoot it, and perform whatever repairs are needed. Call now!

Save Your Food With Proper Fridge Organization!

September 5, 2019 by

Though you might not consider the organization of your fridge important, it most certainly is. Temperature and humidity levels vary throughout the inside of your refrigerator. Therefore, choosing the proper organization for your food can help reduce food waste and keep food from spoiling prematurely.

Here’s a quick run-down of which foods should go where:

  • Door: The items on the door are going to be exposed to warmer temperatures more often. As such, you should keep sensitive items like milk and eggs off of the door. Instead, put your beverages, condiments, butter, and refrigerated cooking oils here.
  • Deli drawer: Some refrigerators will have an option to adjust the temperature in this drawer. Mostly, it’s a good idea to use this drawer for cheeses, deli meats, and items like hot dogs.
  • Crisper drawer: This drawer is designed for produce and often has a humidity slider. Wilting vegetables like leafy greens, green onions, and carrots will do well at higher humidity. Mushrooms, fruits, peppers, and ripe fruits and vegetables do better in lower humidity environments.
  • Lower shelves: Here, the air is coldest. It’s great for milk, raw meats, fish, and eggs.
  • Upper shelves: The top shelf often gets warmer as heat rises. Use these shelves to store leftovers, peanut butter, snacks, and jams.

Of course, there are a few things that should never be put in the refrigerator. Commonly, people make this error with onions, potatoes, garlic, coffee, tomatoes, and bananas. These should be kept out of the fridge for best results.

Though it may not seem like it, organizing your fridge can make a huge difference. For further advice on any of your household appliances, contact All Brands Appliance Repair today!

Tips for Maintaining Your Gas Stove

August 7, 2019 by

Maintaining your gas stove may seem like an intimidating task, but it doesn’t have to be. Once you understand what your gas stove needs, keeping it working properly can be simple.

Here are a few tips we’ve learned about maintaining your gas stove.

  • Wipe down after every use. It’s important that you keep the top of your stove clean after every time you use it. This will prevent food and grime from building up on the surface.
  • Wait until the stove has cooled to clean it. It might take a gas stove longer to cool down than an electric one, so keep that in mind.
  • Clean grates and burners with soapy water. You can clean off tough messes this way, but always remember to wipe and dry them completely before returning them to the stove. Any water at all can harm your stove and cause it to stop working.
  • Clean gas nozzles without using chemicals. Since the nozzles have to ignite to work, using chemicals can cause unpleasant fumes or even start fires! Make sure that when you are cleaning the areas around your gas nozzles, you are only using chemical-free cleaners.
  • Clean out clogged burner holes with a pipe-cleaner. There are also special cleaning implements that you can buy to do this, but any pipe cleaner will work fine. Sometimes food debris clogs up the holes in the burners, preventing the burner from starting. Make sure to clean it all out regularly.
  • Regular igniter service is key. Make sure that you have your igniter serviced at least every year. This can keep burners from needing to be replaced before their time, and it allows your stove to live up to its best potential.

By following these tips, you can take care of your gas stove on a safe, regular basis. It’s quick and easy and might save you money in the long run!

However, if you have concerns or need advice about your gas stove, don’t hesitate to contact All Brands Appliance Repair!
